No One Hit In Gunfire Exchange Involving Brazos County Sheriff’s Deputies

No one was hit in an exchange of gunfire involving Brazos County sheriff’s deputies and a rural resident.

Chief deputy Jim Stewart says two deputies responded Tuesday morning before sunrise to a report from an alarm company.

Deputies found the front gate open to the property on Koppe Bridge Road two miles south of Wellborn.

After seeing a broken window and discovering the front door unlocked, the deputies went inside.

The resident heard people inside the home, but apparently did not hear the deputies announce themselves over the sound of the alarm.

Stewart says the alarm was triggered by a guest leaving the house. The guest also left the front door unlocked and left open the front gate to the property.

The sheriff’s office’s internal affairs and criminal investigations units are reviewing the deputies bodycam video and 9-1-1 records.
