FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 6 Texas A&M women’s basketball team was unable to get by the No. 12 Florida State Seminoles, falling 80-58 Sunday night in the Maggie Dixon Classic at Schollmaier Arena on TCU’s campus. A&M (5-1) kept things close in the first half and had a chance to take control late in the third quarter, but was unable to get over the hump late. Junior Chennedy Carter led the Aggies with her fifth straight 20-point game.

It was a tight first quarter that saw the lead go back-and-forth. Carter scored 10 of A&M’s 20 points in the opening period as the team held a two-point lead through one, 20-18.

A pair of scoring droughts at the beginning and end of the second quarter plagued the Aggies as they trailed 40-32 at the break. After a 7-0 run by Florida State (7-0) to start the second quarter, A&M called a timeout with 6:25 to play before the half. The team responded right away as junior Ciera Johnson went to work in the paint and put one in off the glass, sparking the Aggies as they scored on their next four possessions. Florida State was able to regain control of the momentum to close out with the lead.

Florida State extended the lead to double figures early in the third quarter, but a 10-2 run by the Aggies got them back within five with 1:29 left in the third. A&M was unable to hold on to the two-possession difference as the Seminoles quickly returned their lead to double figures at the start of the fourth quarter and never looked back.
