College Station Councilmember Resigns To Become The Tenth Person To Run For Congress

Add a tenth person announcing they are running for the congressional seat being vacated by Bill Flores of Bryan…and subtract one from the College Station city council.

Elianor Vessali submitted her resignation to the city last Friday, effectively immediately. That means Vessali, who was elected to the council last year, will not participate in Monday’s council meeting.

On December 10th, the council will take action to set a special election for January 28th for the remainder of the term, which expires in 2021.

Vessali, who just finished her first year on the council, becomes the eighth person seeking the Republican nomination, and the third who lives in Bryan/College Station. Two Democrats are also running.

Other GOP nominees, compiled by candidate notifications to WTAW News and checking the websites of the Texas Secretary of State and Texas Republican Party, are Bryan/College Station residents Trent Sutton and Todd Kent, Waco residents Scott Bland and Pete Sessions, and Austin area residents Ahmad Adnan, George Hindman, and John Cyrier.

Democrat hopefuls compiled by WTAW News are Rick Kennedy of Pflugerville and David Jaramillo of Waco.
