Bryan City Council Considering More Building Murals

More murals may be coming to Bryan.

There are five murals on the side of the Conlee-Garrett storage building facing 31st Street between Sims and Bryan Avenue.

This month’s city council meeting included a presentation from a local artist who contacted city staff.

The proposal from Jeremy Thompson, who owns a downtown visual art studio, involves the side of the Clara B. Mounce library facing the railroad tracks. His idea would bring in an artist to produce a three section mural promoting literacy, creativity, and imagination.

Councilman Prentiss Madison thought about promoting the city.

The city’s special projects director, Lindsey Guindi, says they will steer away from historical buildings.

Guindi reacted to mayor Andrew Nelson’s suggestion to add murals to dress up some buildings downtown and in Bryan’s midtown district.

The estimated cost for the library mural is $20,000 dollars…$12,000 for materials and the rest in fees.

The council asked Thompson and Guindi to return with more specific information.

The council will have the final say on the design…which could be related to the library or reflecting downtown or Bryan in general.
