Local Governments Recognize The 125th Anniversary Of The Woman’s Club Of Bryan

The 125th anniversary of The Bryan Woman’s Club was recognized at the last Bryan city council meeting.

A joint proclamation with the city of the College Station and Brazos County was read by Bryan mayor Andrew Nelson.

The organization was originally organized in 1895 by 20 women of the “Mutual Improvement Circle”.

Among other things, The Woman’s Club spearheaded bringing the Carnegie Library to Bryan in 1902 and participated in its upkeep.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, club projects included the beautification of the courthouse lawn and the planting of live oak trees on South College Avenue.

Currently, The Woman’s Club provides financial support for numerous Bryan and College Station non-profit associations and its members take an integral role as volunteers in the activities of many of these local organizations”.
