CHI-St. Joseph Health Dedicates And Blesses New College Station Hospital

The former College Station Medical Center was dedicated Tuesday as the newest hospital in the faith based CHI-St. Joseph health system.

Sister Penny Dunn’s dedication message included a Bible illustration of how the new hospital is both functionally and spiritually significant.

Dunn presented the hospital’s chief operating officer and chief of staff a San Damiano cross.

Dunn also said 300 crucifixes will be placed throughout the hospital.

That was followed by priests blessing in the lobby where the program took place, then throughout the rest of the building.

A larger presence in College Station has been on the radar for a long time according to a more than 20 year member of the St. Joseph board, current chairman Jeb Blair.

Thanks from St. Joseph president Theron Park included the 100 people who were involved in the three month transition.

The chief executive officer for CHI’s Texas division, Dr.Doug Lawson, was a sophomore at Texas A&M working at the student health center when the College Station hospital opened in 1987.

CHI is part of the recently created CommonSpirit non profit health system, which has 800 care locations, 150,000 employees, and revenue of $29 billion dollars.
