In November 2014, Bryan school district voters approved a $132 million dollar bond issue that included an a nearly $8 million dollar conversion of part of Stephen F. Austin middle school into BISD’s new administration offices.
At the time, the bond issue did not include replacing the roof and fixing windows.
But the school board this week awarded a $1 million dollar contract for that work which is funded by savings from other 2014 bond projects.
The district’s construction manager, Paul Buckner, says the roof is at the end of its life.
Buckner also says the project includes renovating single pane windows that are close if not original to the building.
Waterproofing the brick exterior is also part of the project that begins August 1.
Weather permitting, Buckner says substantial completion is expected in October.
