Bryan/College Station, TX – June 27, 2019 – The Brazos Valley Bombers took their first loss from the Victoria Generals Thursday night. The Generals returned the favor after being shut out by the Bombers on Wednesday by shutting out the Bombers offense 7-0.
Henry Bird started on the mound for the Bombers. The Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi commit tossed six strikeouts and walked no batters in the loss. Bird spent six innings on the mound for Brazos Valley. Tristan Stivors relieved Bird and worked the final three innings. Stivors struck out three and walked two.
The Generals plated four in the third inning, one in the seventh and another two in the eighth. The highlight of the night for Victoria was a solo home run by Ryan Flores in the third. Flores has been dangerous against the Bombers this season.
Deryk Serbantez pitched the majority of the game for Victoria. Ty Coleman was able to notch two hits against Serbantez in a game where the Bombers offense only notched three runs on the night. Coleman credited Serbantez for his quality outing postgame.
“He’s a good guy,” said Coleman. “He had quality stuff all night. I just ran into a couple barrels.”
“Things don’t always play out like you want them to,” said Bird postgame, “but you have to deal with it, move on and compete after that.”
The Bombers will have the chance to move on and compete against a Texarkana Twins team that has proved tough on the road. The Bombers travel to Texarkana for the first of a two-game series Friday night.
The Bombers drop their fourth of the season and fall to 19-4. The Generals improve to 16-8, 3.5 games behind the Bombers in first place in the Texas Collegiate League.
