Five Fires In The Twin Cities On Wednesday

A busy Wednesday for local firefighters.

No injuries were reported in four fires handled by College Station firefighters.

One involved a semi catching fire and blocking northbound freeway traffic just past Harvey Road. The semi was hauling carbonated beverages.

On the Texas A&M west campus, there was a fire on a conveyor belt in the Electron Food Beam Research Building on Discovery Drive. An A&M spokesperson reports there was no property damage. A bag of feed caught fire from friction on the conveyor belt, generating a lot of smoke from the corn.

And CSFD responded to a pair of oven fires. One was inside a home on Rugen Lane…at the south end of Edelweiss Park…and at The Pearl Apartments…which is west of Oaks Parks.

In Bryan, police report everyone is safe following a collision between a semi and a three ton pickup truck. Officer Kelley McKethan says the crash on Highway 21 at Wallis Road, near Coulter Field airport, caused both vehicles to go up in flames. McKethan says the semi was attempting a wide right turn when the truck struck the the right side of the semi. Neither driver and a passenger in the semi were transported for medical attention. Highway 21 was closed for five hours. And the driver of the pickup was ticketed for failing to control speed.
