College Station City Council Awards Construction Contract For New Northgate Park

Construction is expected to start next month on College Station’s first park in the Northgate district.

That’s after the city council approved a $418,000 dollar construction contract at its last meeting.

Parks and recreation director David Schmitz says the one and half acre park is designed to have an urban feel.

Lighted trails and open play areas are part of what’s being called Northgate Park.

Some on the council chuckled when councilman John Nichols brought up the idea of someone buying naming rights.

Weather permitting, the park could open early next year.

The city has had the land at Spruce and Boyett streets for more than a decade.

Construction money comes from the city’s parkland dedication fund for the area that includes Northgate.
