Texas A&M’s president, who is barely into the fourth and final year of his first contract, has no problem with a change in how his future employment is written.
In response to a letter from system chancellor John Sharp, Michael Young says it is the right path for him to have an annual appointment letter as is done with all other system presidents.
Young, who finishes his fourth year on April 30th, has had an employment agreement.
Sharp, who sent Young a letter formalizing the change, also told the president that he and the board of regents look forward to the president’s continued employment.
Young says the chancellor’s strong words of support helps motivate him further to lead the flagship.
The chancellor’s letter to the president and the president’s response to the letter were first reported by the Texas Tribune.
Statement from Michael Young issued by Texas A&M:
“I love being part of this great university, and I am excited about its trajectory of success. The Chancellor’s strong words of support help motivate me further to lead A&M and build on the remarkable achievements of our faculty, staff, students and former students.”
“As an administrator and employer, I understand and appreciate the need for consistency in the format of appointment letters among presidents throughout the A&M system. It is the right path.”
