NORMAN, Okla.- Texas A&M’s Courtney Dow and Brooke Tyree co-led the women’s golf team in the second round of the NCAA Norman Regional Tuesday at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Dow and Tyree each shot a 3-over 75, leading the team during a difficult second round. Dow’s day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 18th, putting the ball in the cup on one bounce from 93 yards out. Tyree started her day with a birdie on No. 10, and proceeded to shoot 1-over on her first nine. After two of the three rounds, Dow is tied for 33rd at 3-over and Tyree is tied for 46th at 5-over.
The Aggies shot a 15-over 303 on Tuesday, placing in 13th, despite the fourth-most pars (124) in the tournament. The Aggies are 20-over on the tournament and 15 strokes from the projected line to advance to the NCAA Championship. Texas leads the tournament at 8-under.
“Our team needs to continue to get more experience and gain a little more discipline about their decisions before they make a shot,” said head coach Andrea Gaston. “Now we have to make a nice comeback tomorrow and learn from the mistakes of today.”
Arizona State’s Olivia Mehaffey leads the individual race at 9-under after a second-round 66.
A&M’s Amber Park battled back from early struggles to play her last seven holes a 2-under, finishing the day with a 77. Park is tied for 49th in the tournament at 6-over.
Ava Schwienteck joins her teammate Park in the tie for 49th after carding a 4-over 76 on the par 72 / 6,367-yard course. Chloe Velasco had an even-par first nine, and finished with a 77—she is tied for 60th at 8-over par.
