COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M University completed its newest stadium in time for the Aggies to host the first outdoor track and field competition in College Station in 15 years.
The facility secured earlier this week the necessary track certification. Napier Engineering, LLC certified the facility as meeting all NCAA requirements. The engineers reviewed the competition area’s dimensions, slope, and other characteristics for events including shot put, discus, javelin, hurdles, long jump and pole vault.
“I want to personally thank the hard-working construction workers who put in long hours and endured a historical number of soggy days and uncharacteristically wet weather to make sure the E.B. Cushing Stadium would be ready,” Chancellor John Sharp said. “Our celebrated track and field team now can compete in a stadium that is worthy of our athletes’ outstanding abilities.
Chancellor Sharp added that officials within the Texas A&M System are thrilled to have built such a beautiful facility for the gifted track and field competitors of Texas A&M.
E.B. Cushing Outdoor Track Stadium is a 90,500 square foot complex with seating for about 2,200 people. It includes a track, a press box and a display of national championship rings and trophies. It also has new locker rooms and other amenities.
The new facility replaces the Frank G. Anderson Complex, which was built in 1985.
Texas A&M will compete April 6 against Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech.
