AUSTIN, Texas — Six Texas A&M swimmers tallied U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifying cuts to highlight the Aggie women’s team’s first day at the Longhorn Long Course Invite on Thursday at the Jamail Texas Swim Center on the University of Texas campus.
Logging their Trials cuts from the current Aggie roster were senior Claire Rasmus in the 100 freestyle, sophomore Taylor Pike in 200 butterfly and sophomores Joy Field and Haley Yelle in the 1500 free. Former Texas A&M standouts Bethany Galat and Sarah Gibson nabbed Trials cuts in the 200 breaststroke and 200 fly, respectively.
Posting victories for the Aggies were Pike in the 200 fly (2:11.93), 2018 senior Béryl Gastaldello in the 100 free (55.56) and Field in the 1,500 free (16:41.05).
The Aggies were particularly dominant in the 200-meter breaststroke with Texas A&M swimmers grabbing five of the eight spots in the Championship final. Junior Anna Belousova led the way with a runner-up finish in 2:27.56 followed by senior Sydney Pickrem and Bethany Galat. Junior Victoria Roubique placed sixth and freshman Kyle Powers was seventh.
In the 1500 free, the Aggies swept the top three spots with Field grabbing the gold, followed by Yelle and sophomore Audrey McMurry.
