Twice during a four day period, Bryan police officers were taken to the hospital after they were assaulted.
38 year old Angel Lizandro Gonzales of Bryan remains in jail on charges of aggravated assault of one officer, assaulting a second officer, evading and resisting arrest, and displaying a fake temporary license plate. This follows a traffic stop last Saturday night at the back entrance to Allen Academy. Gonzales is accused of repeatedly hitting one officer on the side of his head with the officer’s flashlight. That caused the officer to get three stitches and a tetanus shot. Gonzales ran away but was caught by a second officer, who shot pepper spray in the the suspect’s face. While the officer was placing handcuffs, Gonzales kicked the second officer in the shin. A total of seven officers responded to that incident. Gonzales is also being held for immigration authorities.
The second incident, which was Tuesday during the midnight hour, involved a man who refused to leave the H-E-B store on Villa Maria. 37 year old Damon Moore is accused of causing one of three officers who responded to fall backwards and hit the top of his head on the edge of a table. That head injury required two stitches. Moore remains in jail on charges of assaulting a public servant, resisting arrest, failing to provide identification, and criminal trespassing.
