Drunk Driving Arrests on New Year’s Eve

A Bryan man was pulled over four minutes before midnight on New Year’s Eve for going 71 mph in a 45 mph zone.

According to the Bryan police arrest report, 35 year-old Alberto Bernal, Jr. said he was coming from the convenience store and had purchased more beer for a New Year celebration. He said there was no emergency, he was only speeding to try and make it back before midnight.

Bernal also told the officer he had drank about seven beers since 10 p.m.

He was arrested for DWI. According to online records, this is Bernal’s seventh time in the Brazos County jail.

The New Year started with an arrest for a Bryan man for DWI with one prior conviction.

According to the arrest report, 29 year-old Edgar Fields III’s friend called police to report he was driving while intoxicated. The caller told dispatch Fields was now pulled over and her husband was trying to get his keys, but Fields was getting agitated and violent.

She also reported that Fields exited the vehicle without putting it in park, but they were able to stop it from rolling and parked it on the side of Burt Road near Sandy Point Road.

On arrival, Brazos County Sheriff’s deputies learned that Fields had been at a karaoke bar in Benchley and he decided to drive home when he was kicked out of the bar.

Fields is out of jail after posting a four thousand dollar bond.
