Third Person Arrested On Charges Of Stealing Thousands From College Station’s J.C. Penney Store

A second former employee of College Station’s J.C. Penney’s store has been arrested for stealing $7,000 dollars in a series of thefts that began three years ago.

38 year old Kwan Mutafungwa Wells of Bryan is also being held on charges in two unrelated cases from earlier this year. One is another theft with prior convictions, and the other is for failing to identify herself. Wells, who is in jail for the 20th time in 19 years, is held on bonds totaling $18,000 dollars.

According to the arrest report from College Station police, Wells’s accomplice said she and Wells used their knowledge of store operations to turn merchandise taken by family and friends into gift cards. The thefts took place between December 2015 and March 2016.

The accomplice, 27 year old Jasmine Shivers of Bryan, pleaded guilty last year to felony theft and was sentenced to probation that included work release and community service.

A cousin of Shivers, 42 year old Tameka Maxey of Bryan, pleaded guilty last year to misdemeanor theft with prior convictions. Maxey was also given probation that included performing community service.
