Bryan School Board Buying Buses With Unanticipated Revenue

Bryan school board members received unexpected good financial news at Monday night’s meeting.

Instead of spending $2.5 million dollars from reserves to meet this year’s budget, board president Mark McCall says it’s $673,000.

With the addition of nearly $2 million, the board voted to spend $800,000 on new buses.

Assistant superintendent Kevin Beesaw says the average life of the Bryan ISD bus fleet of 145 buses is 15 years, with an average of 113,000 miles per bus.

The board agreed with administrators to work on reducing the average life span to 12 years.

Transportation director Warren Lamphier says they tow an average of two buses per week due to mechanical issues.
