CALDWELL, Texas (AP) _ A jury has rejected a man’s nearly $50 million lawsuit claiming he got cancer from exposure to chemicals while working at a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway plant.
Burleson County jurors on Thursday rejected claims by Dennis Davis, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
He had been a longtime employee of the railroad tie manufacturing plant in Somerville, about 80 miles northwest of Houston.
BNSF attorney Doug Poole said Thursday the company had been “reasonably safe” in caring for its workers over its 100-year history of ownership.
The railroad sold the tie plant to Koppers Industries in 1995.
The civil trial lasted nearly 10 weeks.
