Aggies Topple South Carolina with Watt’s 100th-Minute Header

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – Ally Watt put in a header in the 100thminute to lead the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies to a 1-0 win over the No. 14 South Carolina Gamecocks at Stone Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.

Texas A&M handed the Gamecocks their first SEC home loss since Oct. 16, 2015.

The Aggies ended the regular season with a 15-3-1 mark overall and a 6-3-1 mark in SEC action. South Carolina dropped to 12-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in league action.

The defenses owned the first half with the squads combining for just seven shots in the opening act. Texas A&M’s Ally Wattaccounted for the only shot-on-goal in the first half, stripping the ball from a defender in the ninth minute to set a shot from the top of the penalty box. Watt sent a ball to the left post, but Mikayla Krzeczowski made the diving save.

Texas A&M had a pair of golden opportunities for the game winner late in the second half. In the 78th minute, Emily Bates set up Watt for a one-on-one opportunity from 12 yards out, but it went a whisker wide of the right post. The Aggies had two well-taken corner kicks in the final three minutes of regulation, but were unable to put one into goal.

Shots were even for the match, 13-13, but the Aggies’ owned a 5-1 edge in the overtime period. Texas A&M also held a 4-2 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 5-4 margin in corner kicks.

GOAL SUMMARY
100′ – The Aggies recycled the ball after an initial corner kick opportunity was not successful. Jordan Hill served the ball into Watt from the left corner of the penalty box. Watt got her head on the ball 10 yards out, but the ball went straight up in the air, setting her up to send the second shot over the keeper for the game-winner. A&M 1, SC 0.
