Aggies Perfect Start Ends with 3-2 Loss at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies had their school-record 25-match unbeaten string and 10-game win streak to start a season snapped Thursday evening with a 3-2 loss to Arkansas at Razorback Stadium.

The Aggies’ 25-match unbeaten string fell one short of the SEC record of 26 set by Florida in 1998-99. Texas A&M’s last loss came at Auburn (0-1) on September 15, 2017. The Aggies also had a 10-match SEC win streak halted.

The Maroon & White managed to score multiple goals for the 12thconsecutive match, setting a new school record. The run eclipses the school record of 11 set from October 15, 1994 to September 8, 1995.

Texas A&M converted a pair of free kicks, including an equalizer by Kendall Ritchie in the 16th minute and a goal by Asdis Halldorsdottir in the 84th minute to trim the Razorbacks’ lead to 3-2. They now have 15 set-piece goals on the year, including seven free kicks.

The 10-0-0 record out of the gate bested the 9-0-0 starts in 1996 and 1997.

The Maroon & White were unable to take advantage of a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Arkansas owned a 14-12 edge in shots and a 6-2 margin in shots-on-goal.

With the score still tied 1-1 coming out of the intermission, the Aggies failed to convert on a pair of golden scoring opportunities in the second half with Jimena Lopez going high from eight yards out in the 53rd minute and Rheagen Smith sending a shot wide right from eight yards out in the 60th minute.

On the match…
“It’s a tough result for us. It’s always tough playing an SEC road match. It’s especially tough here because they play so differently than everyone else. It was a really physical came that didn’t fall our way. We had a couple wide open looks at goal that we didn’t finish and Arkansas did a great job off finishing three chances.
