Bryan City Council Gives The Bryan Business Council More Power

The Bryan city council has given the Bryan Business Council new power in economic development matters.

At the governing body’s last meeting, approval of a new agreement to spend public money on real estate, approve contracts to build, develop, and make other real estate improvements.

More specifically, the Chapter 380 Development Agreement will allow the BBC to administer a program for the redevelopment of properties within the city of Bryan.

City councilman Reuben Marin, who represents the governing body on the BBC board, said “this is a great example to allow the BBC to grow even more, to grow further to help the city of Bryan in its economic development, which is their (the BBC’s) main purpose.”

Mayor Andrew Nelson was considering a delay in taking action, until economic development director Kevin Russell said that would jeopardize an undisclosed project.

The city council then met behind closed doors, then returned to the open meeting and approved a two year agreement with the business council.
