UNDATED (AP) _ Hot weather took its toll in Texas once again as record highs were set in cities from Waco to Houston.
Temperatures reached 106 degrees Wednesday in some areas and heat index values topped 108 degrees in portions of Southeast Texas or a second straight day.
Records that had stood for more than 75 years were broken in Houston, College Station and Waco. The National Weather Service
says records also were set in Austin and tied in San Antonio.
The high of 104 at Houston Intercontinental Airport broke the mark of 99 set in 1980 and was the hottest June day since June 30,
1980. Houston Hobby Airport set a record of 101, topping the 98 set in 1933.
Waco’s high of 106 broke the record of 104 set in 1933. College Station’s high of 105 broke the record of 102 set in 1933.
Austin broke records at both Camp Mabry at 105 and Austin Bergstrom International Airport at 104. Mabry broke the record of 101 set in 1994 and Bergstrom broke the record 101 set in 1990. San Antonio tied its 1994 high of 102.
