The last week of July, more than 7,600 hundred athletes and about 19,000 family members, friends, and coaches, were in the twin cities for the Games of Texas.
The former tourism manager for the city of College Station, J.D. Wood, says the estimated economic impact was almost $8 million dollars.
That’s based on the out of town athletes and those who came with the athletes spending $150 dollars a day. The $150 was split between lodging and other purchases.
All but 225 of the athletes were outside commuting distance of the nine venues were competition was held.
Wood recently started a new position as the general manager of a sports park that will open next year in Panama City Beach, Florida.
