COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M junior outside hitter Hollann Hans (pronounced Hands) has been named both the SEC Player of the Week and the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced today.
Hans, who collects the honors for the second time in her career, was named to the all-tournament team at the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic at Ohio State after leading Texas A&M to a 2-1 record.
For the weekend, the Corpus Christi native led all players in the SEC in total kills (57), kills per set (5.18), total points (64.5) and points per set (5.86) while hitting .339, which ranks 10th in the conference. She also led the Aggies with five aces for a 0.45 per set average, ranking sixth in the SEC.
Hans twice reached the 20-kill milestone, beginning with a match-high 20 kills while hitting .326 in the 3-1 season-opening win against Ohio. She bettered those numbers with a match-high 25-kill, .345 hitting-percentage performance in the 3-1 victory against Albany. Hans also took match high honors in points with 20.5 against the Bobcats and 28.5 against the Great Danes.
Hans, who also recorded her first double-double of the season with 25 kills and 11 digs against Albany, went on to reach double-figure kills in all three matches, as she tallied 12 kills while hitting .348 in the 3-0 loss at Ohio State.
Hans and the Aggies return to action Friday as they take on Indiana in the opening match of the Penn State Invitational at Rec Hall in State College, Pennsylvania. First serve against the Hoosiers is slated for 4 p.m. (5 p.m. ET). A&M also will face Temple on Saturday at 11 a.m. (12 p.m. ET) and returns to the court that evening to conclude the tournament against No. 6 Penn State. The match time against the Nittany Lions has been changed to 7 p.m. (8 p.m. ET).
