According to the district attorney’s office, Reyes will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:

Joey Reyes of Bryan, was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison for Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault, twenty years in prison for Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Assault, and ten years in prison for Continuous Assault Family Violence, and Violation of a Protective Order by Assault by Judge Travis Bryan, III today.

As a result of his plea, Reyes will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

On May 30, 2016, Reyes was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Before being placed on bond, Judge Louis Garcia placed an emergency protective order and bond conditions on Reyes’s release.

The protective order and bond conditions prohibited Reyes from having any contact with the victim or going to her residence.

Five days later, neighbors of the victim called 911 to report that Reyes had come over to the victim’s residence and entered her home through an unlocked window.

Once inside, Reyes assaulted the victim and her male guest. Once the male guest left, Reyes then forced the victim into her bedroom and began tearing her clothes off and continued to assault
her.

The victim’s screams attracted the attention of her neighbors, who knocked on the door to ascertain what was going on. When the defendant opened the door, the victim begged the neighbors not to leave her alone with the defendant.

The defendant then shut the door on the neighbors. The neighbors went to the back of the house, and helped the victim escape through a back bedroom window. After the victim was safe, the neighbors phoned the police department.

Reyes had previously served a three year prison sentence for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
