On August 30, the Texas Transportation Commission will consider final action to fund the expansion of the Rudder Freeway between between William D. Fitch in College Station and Highway 21 in Bryan.
The Bryan city council was notified by the project during Tuesday’s workshop meeting by city engineer Paul Kaspar.
Kaspar told the council the project includes a third lane in both directions, bridge improvements, and turn lanes on bridges.
Kaspar was told construction would start in 2022 and end in either 2024 or 2025.
The council learned of the expansion as it is considering sites to build two gateway monuments along the freeway. Because the monument near the city’s south city limits to greet northbound motorists would possibly be in the path of the expansion, the council is considering moving that monument to Highway 21 on the city’s west side near the RELLIS campus.
