State Prison After Admitting To Debit Card And Credit Card Abuse

A southeast Texas man arrested by College Station police following a traffic stop a year and a half ago has admitted to altering the prepaid debit cards of 54 people living in multiple states. 22 year old Devin Wayne Jones of Port Arthur was sentenced in Brazos County district court to one year and eight months in a state jail. Once he is released, he will serve ten years probation that includes paying a $2,000 dollar fine and doing 200 hours of community service. According to Brazos County jail records, Jones was also being held on nine warrants from McLennan County on various charges involving financial cards, drugs, and illegal driving. The CSPD arrest report did not indicate the reason for the traffic stop. But after the officer smelled marijuana, that led to a search of Jones’s vehicle and the discovery of 99 pre-paid gift cards…where 76 of the cards had information on the magnetic strip that had been altered.

A Bryan woman is headed to a state jail for the third time for illegally using credit cards. 36 year old Tiffany Stewart recently admitted to using a company credit card for personal purchases when she was the general manager of a local hotel. Six charges, totaling $186 dollars, were made in November 2015. Stewart, who was convicted of the same offense twice in 2012, received a ten month sentence.
