College Station City Council Advances Five Charter Amendment Proposals

The College Station city council has officially set the lineup for November’s election.

That’s after six members approved five proposed charter amendments at the council’s last meeting.

John Nichols abstained from the final vote because of his continuing opposition to expanding council terms to four years and holding council elections in even numbered years.

James Benham was the first of the council members repeating their desire to let voters decide.

Jerome Rektorik, who was absent from the council’s first discussion, agreed this should be decided by voters.

City attorney Carla Robinson told the council was told if approved by voters, College Station would join League City as the only home rule cities in Texas that are made up of all at-large members that have four year terms and hold elections in even numbered years.
