Bryan Police Still Looking For A Three Year Old Child

Thursday update:

Bryan police has extended its publicity in the search for a missing three year old girl.

Officer Kelley McKethan says the national center for missing and exploited children has joined local media, including WTAW, in distributing photos of Rayven Shields.

McKethan says an Amber Alert is not expected to be issued. That’s in part because this is a custody issue and not a child abduction.

The child’s mother, 35 year old Virginia Adams, was arrested for interfering with child custody, as Rayven is legally in the custody of child and protective services.

The reason the mother lost custody was not in the Bryan police arrest report and the court proceeding is not an open record.

According to the arrest report, Adams gave police two false locations where her daughter was, then she was arrested after refusing to disclose the child’s location.

A BPD news release stated anyone hiding the child is subject to arrest on the felony interference charge that has the mother in jail.

As of Thursday at 6 p.m., Adams was still in jail in lieu of a $75,000 dollar bond.

Original news release from Bryan police:

The Bryan Police Department needs your help in locating a 3 year old girl.

BPD is working with Child Protective Services (CPS) to locate the child.

This is after her mother, Virginia Adams, has refused to cooperate with a CPS investigation against her.

A court order was recently obtained by CPS giving them custody of Rayven.

Adams was arrested earlier today and charged Interference with Child Custody.

BPD is asking for the public’s help in locating Rayven so we can assist CPS in making sure she is being taken care of properly.

If someone has possession of Rayven and knowingly keeps her from CPS they may face charges of Interference with Child Custody, which is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in state jail.

BPD asks that anyone with information contact the Bryan Police Department at 979-361-3888 or Brazos County Crime Stoppers at 979-775-TIPS.
