NEW ORLEANS – Ten Texas A&M track and field athletes earned All-Academic distinction from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2018 season. Also honored as a team were the Aggie women with an overall grade point average of 3.12.
The group of individual honors for Texas A&M athletes included Nathan Hite from the men’s team along with nine members of the women’s team – Kristen Clark, Emily Gunderson, Karis Jochen, Lauren Lawless, Alison Ondrusek, Brittany Parker, Sara Kathryn Stevens, Maddy Stulce and Carissa van Beek.
Of the group of 10 receiving the academic honor, four Aggies – Clark, Gunderson, Jochen and Stevens – have earned the accolade four times during their career at Texas A&M. Earning the academic honor three times was van Beek while Lawless and Stulce each earned the accolade twice.
To qualify for the individual honor, a student-athlete needs a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have meet certain athletic standards either during the indoor or outdoor track and field season. Overall, there were 624 men and 874 women who earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track and field season.
A total of 361 teams were honored for their academics by USTFCCCA, 220 women’s teams and 141 men’s teams.
