On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, members of the law enforcement community and many others gathered at the City of College Station Council Chambers to honor Lt. Greg Leeth for 32 years of exceptional law enforcement service.
Lt. Leeth initially began his career with the police department on September 1, 1978 and served until October 1982. While serving with the department, he was promoted to Sergeant in October of 1980. After leaving the department, he returned in 1990 to finish his law enforcement career. During his career, Lt. Leeth worked in or supervised many divisions at the department and received numerous commendations for his outstanding work and dedication.
As a Sergeant, he served in the Uniformed Patrol Division, the Special Services Division, and the Recruiting and Training Division. While in the Special Services Division, he supervised Crime Prevention, the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program, Animal Control Officers, School Resource Officers, School Crossing Guards, and was a backup School Resource Officer at A&M Consolidated High School. While in the Recruiting and Training Division, he supervised the Field Training Officer Program and taught almost all of the in-service courses including Firearms, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Defensive Tactics, etc.
As a Lieutenant, he served the majority of his years as the Special Operations Commander, which included the SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiations Team, Bomb Unit, Motors Unit, and Special Events.
Most recently, he has served as Commander of the Auxiliary Services Division, which included Special Events, Emergency Management, Volunteers, Interns, Chaplains, and Honor Guard.
Lt. Leeth is a graduate of the Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute of the Southern Legal Foundation’s Management College in Plano, Texas in March of 2001. He is a graduate of the U.S. Secret Service’s Dignitary Protection Training Seminar in Washington, DC. In addition, he was a part of a local delegation of Law Enforcement Officers who assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Office Security Detail for the 2005 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C., the first inauguration after September 11, 2001.
Lt. Leeth was awarded the Medal of Honor (the department’s highest honor) for saving citizens from a house fire in September of 1992. In addition, he was either a member or supervisor of four different units that have been recognized by the Chief of Police as “Outstanding Units.” Those units were the Field Training Officers, Patrol Division, Recruiting and Training Division, and the Motors Unit.
The ceremony included stories from officers and friends from the law enforcement field and the community. It was clear that he made a lasting and positive impact within the police department. Lt. Leeth was friend to many and a servant to all. His commitment to the community and those he served is something to be proud of. Lt. Leeth will be missed and his College Station Police Department family wish him the best in his future endeavors.

LT Leeth and his family have faced enormous health related expenses over the years due to complications from diabetes and a kidney transplant.
