The Monday before the start of new health insurance benefits at Texas A&M, the school’s Faculty Senate received an update and asked questions of Dr. Carrie Byington at A&M’s college of medicine.
Dr. Byington said CHI St. Joseph was the only one interested in A&M’s combination of providing medical services, co-branding with the university, and a longer contract to teach medical students.
She also said Baylor Scott & White, which has a 40 year relationship with A&M, was the first to be approached about the co-branding opportunity.
Byington says health benefits will not change, but there are discounts through the new agreement with CHI St. Joseph.
She did not disclose how much money A&M is receiving from the new co-branding agreement.
She did say the length of the teaching agreement increased from one year to seven years with CHI St. Joseph.
