College Station’s Contribution To Woo State Event Would Come After Amending Funding Agreement With Experience B/CS

There is unanimous support by the local governments in Brazos County to spend a combined $735,000 dollars in an effort to bring the Texas State 4-H Horse Show to the Expo for the next five years.

The Experience Bryan/College Station tourism agency (EBCS) projects the July event would fill 2,000 hotel rooms each July and generate an economic impact over the five year period of more than $4 million dollars.

But in College Station, that will take an amendment to the city’s funding agreement with the EBCS agency. That’s because the current agreement does not allow College Station to give money to an event where EBCS is also making a financial contribution.

Councilmen James Benham and John Nichols, who support recruiting the state 4-H event, both have concerns about what was described as EBCS double dipping.

The five year contribution from College Station and Bryan would be $125,000 dollars each. EBCS, which also receives funding from Bryan and Brazos County, would provide $175,000 dollars over the five year period. Brazos County would contribute $250,000, and the Expo $60,000 dollars.
