Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley Closing Location and Switching to Events-Focused Programming

The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley is closing its Lake Walk facility and temporarily switching to an online and mobile presence. Board Chair Pat Baker says you will see the museum even more throughout the community. “In Bryan, College Station, in the schools, and the surrounding counties. Our hope and goal is to be more within the community instead of in our designated location that we have been in,” says Baker. Baker says they are excited to have a larger presence in the schools. “Our opportunity now is going to be interacting with the students within the schools and bring the fun and education and inspiration to the students there,” says Baker. Baker says the online presence will include online learning opportunities and engagement. And signature events including the Daddy Daughter Dance, Noon Year’s Eve, and Little Sparklers will continue. In the meantime, CMBV will continue fundraising to create a new museum in a larger space at Lake Walk. The current facility will close on Saturday, October 19th. News release from the Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley: The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley is excited to announce plans to expand its offerings, with a planned relocation to a larger venue to better serve the growing needs of the children and youth of our community. Since early 2021, the Children’s Museum has been proud to welcome more than 50,000 guests to our Lake Walk location. Our current facility, however, is too small to meet the community’s present and future needs. In an effort to best utilize our resources, we will be closing the Lake Walk facility on Saturday, October the 19th and temporarily switching to an online and mobile presence. “We are excited about the upcoming phase for the Children’s Museum. It’s a time to honor our deep roots in the Brazos Valley and dedicate ourselves to creating a center for education and discovery that rivals the finest Children’s Museums in the state and across the nation.” said Children’s Museum Board of Directors Chairman, Pat Baker. Brazos Valley families can still expect signature Children’s Museum events including the Daddy Daughter Dance and Rock’in Noon Year’s Eve, along with new initiatives and engagement within local elementary schools. Over the next few years, The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley will be fundraising to create a new museum experience in a significantly larger space at Lake Walk, offering opportunities for guests of all ages to explore, play, create, and learn. The new space will offer both permanent and rotating exhibits, programming, and activities that will make each visit a new and exciting educational experience. “We love seeing the excitement on the children’s faces as they walk towards the Children’s Museum,” said Spencer Clements with William Cole Companies, the developer of Lake Walk. “Our community needs a larger version of an interactive discovery center that will inspire the next generation. Bryan Police Arrest An Intermediate School Student For Threatening To Bring A Gun To School

Bryan police arrest an intermediate school student on a charge of threatening to bring a gun to school. A joint news release from BPD and Bryan ISD says Thursday morning’s (October 10) incident at Rayburn intermediate did not involve a credible threat to the school, students, or employees. The unidentified student was removed from campus and taken to the Brazos County juvenile detention center on a misdemeanor charge. Joint news release from Bryan police and Bryan ISD: On October 10th, 2024, at approximately 10:15 a.m., BISD administration, along with School Resource Officers from the Bryan Police Department responded to a report of a verbal threat made by a student in regards to bringing a firearm to school. This incident took place at Sam Rayburn Intermediate School. During the investigation, it was determined there was no credible threat to the school, students or staff. The juvenile student that made the threat was removed from campus and placed under arrest and transported to the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center and booked in for Texas Education Code 37.125 Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms. Due to the arrest involving a juvenile, no further information will be released. Texas Education Code – EDUC 37.125. Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms (a) A person commits an offense if, in a manner intended to cause alarm or personal injury to another person or to damage school property, the person intentionally: (3) threatens to exhibit or use a firearm in or on property described by Subdivision (1)(A) or on a bus described by Subdivision (1)(B). (c) An offense under Subsection (a)(3) is a Class A misdemeanor. As you know, Bryan ISD takes every rumor or report of this type very seriously and works closely with local law enforcement to investigate and take appropriate action, up to and including arrest. Brazos County Has The Fourth Largest Number Of 4-H Members In Texas

Brazos County has the fourth largest number of 4-H members in Texas. County commissioners learned that information during Tuesday’s meeting (October 8) as part of the annual recognition of national 4-H week. Brazos County 4-H agent Matt Pfiefer said Brazos County has 724 4-H members. Nine members of the Brazos County 4-H council introduced themselves to commissioners after a proclamation was presented to the group. Two other members are at the state fair this week representing the state 4-H council.
