The owner of land along the freeway in College Station, who withdrew their rezoning application after it was conditionally approved by the planning and zoning commission, still had a public hearing at the last city council meeting.
The council heard from homeowners in the Raintree subdivision who were opposed to a change from general suburban to general commercial. Then the council voted 6-1 to go between those two categories, to suburban commercial.
The applicant, who withdrew their original requested the less restrictive general commercial zone for land at the northeast corner of Raintree and the freeway, said they would wait for revisions being drafted to current suburban commercial regulations.
That drew a reply from the president of the College Woodlands neighborhood association, Suzanne Drolesky.
The rezoning was passed after councilman Jerome Rektorik questioned the applicant’s attorney, Mike Gentry, about the landowner working with neighboring homeowners in a development at the southeast corner of Raintree and the freeway.
Linda Harvell voted against the rezoning.
