Widening Holleman South In College Station Starting Soon

A $9.44 million dollar street project starts this month in College Station.

That’s after the city council at its last meeting awarded the construction contract affecting Holleman South from North Dowling to Rock Prairie West.

Public Works director Donald Harmon says funding is not from recently imposed impact fees, but from bonds approved by the council that followed recommendations by a citizens advisory committee in 2016.

Assistant city manager Jeff Kersten says the process has started in collecting the new transportation impact fee. That revenue will be distributed to four different areas of the city.

Weather permitting, construction will take a year to create a four lane road with a center turn line, a sidewalk on one side, and a hike and bike path on the other side.

There will also be a traffic signal at Rock Prairie and the entrance to the new Riverbend elementary school and an underground storm sewer.
