College Station City Council Changing Its Suburban Commercial Zoning Regulations

The College Station city council is taking a step to resolve an issue in zoning regulations the last few years.

The council at last week’s meeting approved fewer restrictions to the city’s suburban commercial classification…which applies mostly to land between residential neighborhoods and major streets, including the freeway.

Madison Thomas of the city’s planning department says among the recommendations endorsed after community meetings and a review by the planning and zoning commission is allowing flat roofs on commercial buildings.

The council voted 6-1 on the main motion, after voting 5-2 against Linda Harvell’s amendment against allowing gas stations and drive-thru businesses.
