Bryan Council Discusses Revealing BTU Salaries

If you want to know the pay of those working at the city of Bryan’s electric department, that might happen sometime. That follows dialogue Tuesday between the city council and the director of the Texas Public Power Association.

Mayor Jason Bienski says it’s a balance between the public’s right to know and disclosing financial information that would harm BTU’s ability to generate revenue.

Would the disclosure of the salaries paid to BTU employees department result in reduced sales of locally generated power on the open market? That’s a question debated by TPPA Executive Director Mark Zion and city councilman Mike Southerland.

Zion says some cities disclose all salaries of electric department employees, others do no one, and some pick and choose.

Also during Tuesday’s council meeting, BTU General Manager Dan Wilkerson provided an update on two projects.  One involves generating methane gas from local landfills.
