With no notice, the new Munson Street in College Station is open.
It’s a two lane concrete street with a concrete hike and bike sidewalk.
What you don’t see but perhaps motorists and homeowners noticed last week when Harvey came through, was new drainage outlets along with new water and wastewater lines.
The nearly $2.5 million dollar project was awarded by the city council in May of last year.
The Texas State 4-H horse show will continue being held at the Brazos County Expo complex. Brazos County commissioners during Tuesday’s (July 23) meeting approved an extension through the year 2028. The event has been at the expo since 2019. The unanimous vote, without public comment, gives the state extension service $50,000 dollars a year from the county’s hotel occupancy tax fund. The state extension service is also eligible to receive a credit of up to $12,000 dollars a year in renting the expo complex. The amount of the discount depends on the number of hotel rooms that booked that are associated with the show. The website for the horse show says they expected 350 participants along with family members.
A College Station councilman is interested in selling parkland for commercial development. Dennis Maloney’s comments came at the end of a July 16th budget workshop. Maloney said he never sees anyone in EastGate Park, which is located behind commercial buildings facing Texas Avenue. The 1.8 acre property is split by Walton Drive. City manager Bryan Woods told Maloney that selling parkland requires a public vote. Mayor John Nichols added he would want a recommendation from the city’s park board. The value of the parkland, according to the Brazos Central Appraisal District (BCAD) is currently $9,900 dollars. BCAD’s highest valuation in recent years was $434,380 in 2019.
