College Station City Council Approves Spending Another $104,000 On The Nearly $5 Million Dollar Visitor’s Center And Economic Development Office
The cost of the relatively new city of College Station visitors center and economic development office gets closer to $5 million dollars. That’s after a city council majority approved spending $104,000 dollars to add ceiling tile. City manager Bryan Woods and capital projects director Jennifer Cain said that is hoped to solve acoustic problems caused by a concrete floor. While city staff recommended paying for the tile from the general fund, the council voted five to one on Elizabeth Cunha’s motion to use hotel occupancy tax (HOT) money. Cunha said this was one of the few things where HOT money could be used. Linda Harvell voted no, saying she wanted hotel occupancy tax money spent on recruiting more visitors to generate more sales tax revenue.
