Earlier this month, a political action committee started a petition drive to place ten proposed changes to the Bryan city charter.
Tuesday night, the city council approved mayor Andrew Nelson’s formation of a seven member citizens charter advisory committee.

Nelson told councilman Mike Southerland, who is a member of the Bryan New Directions PAC, that the city committee will also review their proposals.
Southerland and Nelson had an exchange over the PAC not reviewing its petition language in advance with city staff.
Each councilman nominated up to seven people to the committee. One person was nominated by each member. That led the mayor to name Tim Bryan chairman of the committee.
All five Bryan council districts are represented on the committee. Richard Cortez lives in single member district (SMD) 1, Jenita Rayford in SMD 2, Sonny Lyles in SMD 3, Bryan, Kenny Lawson, and Gabriel Garcia in SMD 4, and George Nelson in SMD 5.
According to city secretary Mary Lynne Stratta, the deadline to file charter amendments is July 31st.
