News release from Bryan ISD:
Bryan ISD Board Trustee John Street announced today he was stepping down immediately from the board. Street, who served Single Member District 2, thanked the community for the opportunity to serve and said he is moving out of his district and would therefore need to step aside from his role on the board.
Street was elected to the board for the first time in 2011. He was re-elected in 2014 after running unopposed in the general election.
Board President Doug Wunneburger and Superintendent Tommy Wallis expressed appreciation for Street’s five-year service and tireless support of district initiatives and staff. He was recognized for his positive ambassadorship of Bryan ISD and for stepping forward to serve during a time period that involved passing a $132 bond referendum, realigning grades and rezoning the district.
Per board policy BBC (LEGAL), Trustees may resign by written notice addressed to the presiding officer of the board. By policy, if a vacancy on the board occurs by reasons including death, resignation, lack of residency or other qualifications, the board may fill the vacancy by appointment until the next board member election, or they may order a special election to fill the vacancy. The trustees will consider the action they will take at an upcoming meeting. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is 6 p.m. Sept. 19.
