Bryan Council Discusses Homebuilder Incentive Program

The city of Bryan is completing its second year offering homebuilders incentives for building homes between 2,200 and 3,000 square feet.

At the last council meeting, city manager Kean Register told Rafael Pena and Al Saenz they’re working on incentives for building smaller homes as part of a new subdivision.

Register reminded the council of the gap that led to the creation of the current incentive program.

Pena asked and Saenz supported lowering the incentive threshold to 1,800 square feet.

The council directed staff to have an official report on the second year of the incentive program at the end of September.

That’s after Buppy Simank said there was a 38 percent increase in the number of homes being built in the targeted range…where the city collects no fees from building permits and tapping into city water and sewer.
