MLB Trade Deadline: Astros & Rangers

ASTROS

Jays acquire Scott Feldman from Astros

TORONTO (AP) _ The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Scott Feldman from the Houston Astros for minor league pitcher Lupe Chavez.

The playoff contenders made the deal Monday.

The 33-year-old Feldman is 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 26 appearances for the Astros this season. He’s made five starts but has pitched almost exclusively out of the bullpen since the end of April.

Feldman is 1-2 with a 3.65 ERA as a starter this year, and he’s gone 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA in relief.

The 18-year-old Chavez is in his third professional season, and this was his second with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays.

Astros trade reliever Fields to Dodgers for Cuban teen

HOUSTON (AP) _ The Houston Astros have traded right-handed reliever Josh Fields to the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league first baseman Yordan Alvarez.

The deal between playoff contenders came Monday.

The 30-year-old Fields had a 6.89 ERA in 15 games for Houston this season. With Triple-A Fresno, he was 1-0 with one save and a 1.65 ERA in 23 games.

The 19-year-old Alvarez was signed in June by the Dodgers as a free agent from Cuba.

RANGERS

Yanks deal Beltran to Rangers for former 1st-round pick

By RONALD BLUM

NEW YORK (AP) _ The Yankees stepped up their rebuilding, trading outfielder Carlos Beltran to the AL West-leading Texas Rangers for right-hander Dillon Tate, the fourth overall pick in the 2015 amateur draft, and two other pitching prospects.

A 39-year-old switch-hitter, Beltran has been the Yankees’ top offensive player, leading New York with a .304 batting average, 22 homers and 64 RBIs. The trade Monday follows deals that sent relievers Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs and Andrew Miller to Cleveland.

Beltran joins a Texas team that recently lost slugger Prince Fielder, who had been their primary designated hitter, to season-ending neck surgery.

Beltran signed a $45 million, three-year contract before the 2014 season. He will be eligible for free agency after this year’s World Series.

He was traded from Kansas City to Houston in June 2004 and from the New York Mets to San Francisco in July 2011. While he has appeared in the playoffs with the Astros, Mets, Cardinals and Yankees, Beltran remains in search of his first World Series title.

Lucroy tweets he has been traded to Rangers

By STEPHEN HAWKINS

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Jonathan Lucroy says he’s been traded to the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Rangers or the Milwaukee Brewers as the non-waiver trade deadline passed Monday, but Lucroy posted on his verified Twitter account that he’s “moving on” to the Rangers and “can’t wait to get after it.”

In another tweet, Lucroy thanked Brewers fans and said they would always have a special place in his heart.

The 30-year-old Lucroy is hitting .299 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs in 95 games this season. He has been with the Brewers for all six of his major league seasons, hitting .284 in 805 games, and his contract includes a $5.25 million team option for 2017.

The Rangers have used four different starting catchers this season, with Bobby Wilson making a team-high 38 starts. Robinson Chirinos has started 33 games.

Texas earlier Monday acquired outfielder Carlos Beltran from the rebuilding New York Yankees.
