There is at least one place in town where Pokemon Go players are not wanted – the Bonfire Memorial on Texas A&M’s campus.
Charlotte Hammer, the social media representative for the Traditions Council, said they have received complaints of people playing the game in and around the memorial’s grounds.
“The people that have seen it happen have complained that the players there are being really disrespectful, standing on top of the memorial and being loud,” said Hammer.
Hammer said they have contacted Pokemon Go to request that the memorial is removed as a location in the game, but have not heard back yet. They are also working with the university to post signs discouraging people from playing the game at the memorial.
“Until we get some of the problems resolved or at least mitigated, we ask that people are more conscience of where they are and are more respectful of the memorial itself,” said Hammer.
This comes after similar concerns at the Holocaust Museum and Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C.
