HOUSTON (AP) _A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the Houston Rockets have agreed to terms with Mike D’Antoni on a four-year deal to make him their new head coach.
The two sides came to agreement on Thursday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the hiring.
The 65-year-old D’Antoni has long been thought of as one of the most innovative offensive minds in basketball. He led the Phoenix Suns to two Western Conference finals appearances in five seasons and also coached the Knicks, Lakers and Nuggets.
In Houston, D’Antoni will team with James Harden to form a formidable offensive tandem. D’Antoni replaces interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who took over for the fired Kevin McHale early in the season.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the hiring.
