Brazos County Burn Ban Is Lifted
A burn ban affecting Brazos County residents living outside city limits since September 24th has ended. County judge Duane Peters signed the order Thursday (December 5) after consulting with the county emergency management office and the county’s rural fire chiefs. The order says all are in agreement that drought conditions have improved significantly following this week’s rainfall, along with the expectation of more rain over the next several days. Rainfall at Easterwood Airport, the official “rain gauge” for the National Weather Service, measured .65 of one inch on Wednesday (December 4).
Three Juveniles May Be Responsible For Eight Of 11 Vehicle Burglaries Reported To Bryan Police On Wednesday
Bryan police received 11 reports of vehicle burglaries on Wednesday (December 4). Officer Seth Waller tells WTAW News that all the vehicles were unlocked and three juveniles caught at 3:30 in the morning may be responsible for as many as eight vehicle burglaries that took place around Bonham Park. The juveniles were caught after officers responded to a citizen’s report of seeing the suspects pull on door handles. Waller says not to hesitate calling 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity. The trio was taken to juvenile detention on charges that also includes evading arrest, engaging in organized criminal activity, and weapons and drug charges. In addition to locking vehicle doors, residents are also reminded to remove or hide valuables. News release from Bryan police: On December 4th, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Bryan Police Department responded to a 911 call from a citizen who observed two subjects on surveillance cameras, pulling on car door handles in the 3300 block of Oregon Trail. BPD patrol units quickly secured a perimeter in the area. Patrol units were able to locate three individuals matching the description of the subjects observed pulling on car door handles. All three immediately fled on foot and were quickly apprehended and arrested. The three juvenile suspects were found to be in possession of illegal narcotics at the time of arrest and stolen property from vehicle burglaries that just occurred. Further investigation led to the recovery of stolen property from prior vehicle burglaries in the area dating back to October 2024. The three juvenile suspects were transported to the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center and booked in. Juvenile 1: Engage in Organized Criminal Activity, Burglary of Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 <1G DFZ, and Theft of a Firearm. Juvenile 2: Engage in Organized Criminal Activity, Burglary of Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Possession of Marijuana < 2OZ, Theft of a Firearm, and Unlawful Carry of Weapon. Juvenile 3: Engage in Organized Criminal Activity, Burglary of Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 1-4G, Theft of a Firearm, Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence, and Unlawful Carry of Weapon. All of these cases remain under investigation, and additional criminal charges may follow. The Bryan Police Department wants to say thank you to the observant citizen who called 911 ultimately leading to the arrest of these three juveniles. BPD wants to remind all citizens to lock your car doors and remove all valuables from within your vehicle.

A Brazos County sheriffs arrest report of an attempted escape at the juvenile detention center last Friday (November 29) happened at the same time a 16 year old was able to escape. A 17 year old who was arrested, Elmilvio Harris of Bryan, was following the fellow inmate who successfully climbed over a gated door in the recreation yard. The arrest report says a guard forcibly pulled Harris to the ground and detained him in handcuffs. Harris was moved to the adult jail on the new charge and awaiting transfer to a state juvenile facility for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of evading arrest, and unauthorized use a motor vehicle. Update, December 3, 2024: Brazos County commissioners hear during Tuesday’s meeting (December 3) meeting about last Friday’s escape of a 16 year old who was captured Monday in College Station. Juvenile services director Linda Ricketson said details will be shared after the sheriff’s office completes its investigation. Ricketson said no one was injured, and she thanked law enforcement for their work. There were no comments from commissioners or from sheriff Wayne Dicky. The director told WTAW News that this was the first escape from the current juvenile detention facility. The last one was in the former center, taking place in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. Update, December 2, 2024: The Brazos County public information office announced Monday afternoon (December 2) that an escapee from the juvenile detention center was found in College Station. No information has been released on how 16 year old Ar’jzion Dovontay Dumon Robertson escaped last Friday (November 29) or if anyone was injured. A news release from the sheriff’s office says Robertson was found at a College Station apartment complex near Holleman and Anderson. Robertson, who was captured following a brief foot chase, was returned to the juvenile detention center after his arrest on an escape charge. Update, November 29, 2024: The Brazos County public information office has released the identity of an escapee from the juvenile detention center. News releases say 16 year old Ar’jzion Dovontay Dumon Robertson was being held for state authorities on property crime charges when he escaped Friday morning (November 29). The county released the name and a photo with the permission of 472nd district court judge George Jerrell Wise. County officials continue their investigation of the escape.
