This year’s community campaign for United Way of the Brazos Valley reached $650,000 dollars.
That’s a decrease of $150,000 from last year, which president Alison Prince was due to a downturn in the local economy that was worse than predicted.
Prince says partner agencies will be notified what they are receiving at the end of this month or the beginning of June.
Meantime, United Way’s Youth Leadership Cabinet had a fundraising goal of $7,000 and reached $13,200 dollars.
Prince said after expenses, 14 mini-grants totaling $11,500 were awarded to the following agencies: Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach, BCS Economic Development Corporation, Books and a Blanket,
Boys & Girls Club of Washington County, Brazos Valley Food Bank, Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse, CSISD Education Foundation: Chrissy’s Closet, Easter Seals East Texas: Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, Family Promise, Friends of the Bryan Public Library, Health For All, NAMI Brazos Valley, Texas Ramp Project, and The Prenatal Clinic.
The youth cabinet is made up of 29 students from seven public and private high schools in Bryan and College Station.
