Parents, community members, and students in the Bryan school district overwhelmingly recommended a new calendar format for next year.
New board member Mark McCall said he’s heard from a growing number of parents of middle school students who will have to drop off their students an hour before classes start to make it to work by eight.
Superintendent Tommy Wallis says those students will be supervised, and the board will be asked to approve grant applications to fund before-school activities.
Another new board member, Ruthie Waller, called on administrators to keep parents in the loop as tweaks may be made in class times.
The 8:30 start time for next year also applies to three elementary schools: Bonham, Henderson, and Johnson.
